WM Dragons - Singapore S. 87-88 The most exciting game of round 14 in the ASEAN League took place in Kuala Lumpur. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 5th ranked Malaysian WM Dragons (8-6) to seventh ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (6-8) 88-87 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of WM Dragons. They outrebounded WM Dragons 60-43 including a 40-28 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Singapore Slingers made 8 blocks. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) who had a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Singapore Slingers players scored in double figures. Swingman Cade Davis (197-88, college: Oklahoma) produced 37 points (!!!) and power forward Will Artino (211-92, college: Creighton) added 16 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. WM Dragons' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Singapore Slingers maintains seventh position with 6-8 record. WM Dragons at the other side dropped to the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Formosa D.. Singapore Slingers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. WM Dragons will play again on the road against Singapore Slingers (#7) and are hoping to win this game. This time they beat 7th ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (6-8) 87-77 in Bangkok. Mono Vampire dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Singapore Slingers' 24 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Mono Vampire forced 20 Singapore Slingers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Singapore Slingers' players. The game was also dominated by American players. Forward Michael Singletary (198-88, college: Texas Tech) had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and center Mike Morrison (206-89, college: GMU) chipped in 13 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals during the contest. Singletary is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Mono Vampire players scored in double figures. Mono Vampire's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Visiting Alab Pilipinas were defeated by WM Dragons in Kuala Lumpur 92-80. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Alab Pilipinas. It was a great shooting night for WM Dragons especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. American swingman Cade Davis (197-88, college: Oklahoma) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 assists. The other American import power forward Will Artino (211-92, college: Creighton) contributed with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four WM Dragons players scored in double figures. American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) replied with 28 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jordan Heading (188-96, college: CBU) added 26 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Alab Pilipinas. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. WM Dragons have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Formosa D. Defending Filipino champion Alab Pilipinas keep the second position with six games lost. WM Dragons will play against Singapore Slingers (#7) on the road in the next round. Alab Pilipinas will play against Saigon Heat (#10) and hope to get back on the winning track.
